In Window Vista this is very simple to format Pen Drive in NTFS File System.
Open My Computer > Right click pen Drive icon >Format > Choose File system in the File System dropdown box >start and waiting for some time….
But when you trying the same way in Windows XP, you don’t found NTFS option in format Window. So first active this option in Windows XP, So that you can format your pen drive in NTFS.

Follow these steps
1.Right click My Computer and select Properties.
2.Choose Hardware Tab and select the Device Manager.

3.Click on Disk drives and selects your pen drive.
4.Right click the pen drive icon and select properties.

5.Choose Policies tab and select the “Optimize for Performance” option
6.Click ok

7.Open My Computer
8.Right click pen drive icon and select format.
9.Choose NTFS in the File System dropdown box.

10.Click start and Waiting for some time…

This is not a useful tips, only one option will create “NTFS”. But it is not suitable option for format pen drive
When I copy file to USB it is copied without any error until some extend and after that when I create folder automatically copied in to the new folder and that file has no file extension and naming using ASCII characters (UU) and size is 0KB
After that all files which I copied in to USB pen shown as like above
I tried to format Pen using NTFS as your instruction but end of the format it gives error “Windows was unable to complete the format”
I tried to format the pen using command prompt using following command
Format [Drive]: /FS:NTFS
But at the end it gives error “The second NTFS boot sector is unwriteable”
Using FAT32 pen can be formated but isuu is remaining

After format (tried both FAT32&NTFS) with device management it shows 7.81GB RAW Healthy(Primary Partion) and asking to format again, after 100% format it says windows unable to complete format. What is this? Is this pen drive is useless or can be repaired or How can I format it in otherways? In its properties shows only 0 bytes.

This worked thanks!!
thanks a lot,
this helped very much.
had to copy a 5+ gigabyte file, and offcoarse it didnt fit on my fat32 drive.. (only supports files smaller than 4 gig)
now when you try to format the 16 gig memory stick, only fat32 showed up as an option.
so the trick was to turn off this feature optimise for quick removal..
then ntfs showed up under format options
